EXPERIENCE

The roots of my creative photography harkens back to the mid-70's when I became enamored with "the photographic life". I went very rapidly from being a self-taught enthusiast to becoming a professionally-trained commercial studio owner cranking out weddings and portraits using medium-format equipment.

Despite all the studio traffic,
I always felt the most satisfaction
when faced with new illustrative challenges.
Advertising and architecture work,
although sparse, made my blood flow.
I painted with light.

During the "studio era", I attended numerous professional training seminars around the country. The only one that mattered was time I spent with Ansel Adams learning his methods. Alas, B&W photo art was not the direction I could afford to pursue, and so the studio continued until my creative juices were spent. In the process, I had several award-winning Bridal portraits that hung in the juried galleries at annual PPA conventions.

Once the modern day DSLR arrived in affordable form, I became re-engaged in the "photographic life". Since 2002, I have been an avid shooter advancing my technique. The key to this re-emergence comes as a result of three factors:

  • I was already an accomplished photo practitioner.
  • The feedback provided by digital processes makes learning new methods immediate and sensible.
  • I have a degree in Computer Science and feel right at home in the "digital darkroom".
